You've seen it before: a notification pops up on WhatsApp, but by the time you open the chat, the message is gone — replaced by "This message was deleted." WhatsApp's Delete for Everyone feature lets senders recall messages within a short time window, and once deleted, the content vanishes from both sides of the conversation.
How WhatsApp Message Recall Works
When someone sends a message and then chooses "Delete for Everyone," WhatsApp sends a revoke signal to all recipients. The app then removes the original message content and replaces it with a deletion notice. This happens on WhatsApp's mobile apps and on WhatsApp Web. The original text, image, or video is permanently erased from the conversation — unless something intercepts it before it disappears.
How the WA Web Plus Recall Viewer Works
WA Web Plus includes a Recall Viewer (also called View Deleted Messages) feature that intercepts the revoke signal in real time. When a sender deletes a message, the extension preserves the original content locally in your browser before WhatsApp can remove it. Instead of seeing "This message was deleted," you see the actual message with a small indicator showing it was recalled.
Setting Up the Recall Viewer
- 1
Install WA Web Plus from the Chrome Web Store.
- 2
Open WhatsApp Web in your browser.
- 3
Click the WA Web Plus extension icon in your toolbar.
- 4
Find the "View Deleted Messages" toggle in the Enhance section and turn it on.
- 5
Keep WhatsApp Web open — the extension now monitors for recalled messages automatically.
Important: Real-Time Only
There's a key detail to understand: the Recall Viewer works in real time. It can only preserve messages that are deleted while your WhatsApp Web tab is open and the extension is active. It cannot recover messages that were deleted before you installed the extension or while your browser was closed. Think of it as a safety net that catches deletions as they happen.
What Gets Preserved
The Recall Viewer works with all message types: text messages, images, videos, voice notes, documents, and stickers. When a sender deletes any of these, the original content is retained in your chat view. The preserved messages persist even after you refresh the page, so you won't lose them during your browsing session.
Privacy and Data Storage
All recalled message data is stored locally in your browser's storage. WA Web Plus never uploads or transmits this data anywhere. The information stays entirely on your device, consistent with the extension's 100% local privacy model. No accounts, no servers, no data collection.
Whether you're curious about what someone unsent or you need to keep a record of important messages, the Recall Viewer gives you transparency in your conversations without any complicated setup.
Stop missing deleted messages. Install WA Web Plus free from the Chrome Web Store and never see "This message was deleted" again.
